Location: Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9200 Tule Springs Road, Las Vegas, NV 89131

Las Vegas may be known for its neon nights, but just beyond the city lights lies a different kind of nightlife—one filled with the quiet flutter of bats, the soft hoot of owls, and the hidden rhythms of desert creatures that come alive after sundown.

On Saturday, August 9, the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) invites you to experience that world firsthand with a free guided night walk at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs. From 7:00 to 9:00 PM, this immersive and family-friendly event offers a rare opportunity to explore the Mojave desert’s natural side under the stars.

What to Expect

This isn’t your average nature walk. Guided by local wildlife experts, you’ll learn about:

  • Bats: Discover how these essential, often misunderstood mammals use echolocation to hunt and navigate in the dark.
  • Owls: Observe or listen for these elusive birds of prey and learn about their important role in balancing the ecosystem.
  • Other nocturnal wildlife: From insects to mammals, you’ll explore the behaviors and adaptations that allow these animals to thrive after dark.

Educators from NDOW will provide insights along the way, making this an engaging outing for curious kids, nature lovers, and anyone looking for a different kind of night out.

What to Bring

  • A small flashlight or headlamp (preferably one with a red-light option to avoid disturbing the wildlife)
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Water to stay hydrated
  • A light jacket, as desert temperatures can drop after sundown
